Each knife starts out as just a couple of steel pieces. Stacked on top of each other and folded back onto itself, a multitude of layers is created. The density of layers and orientation of folding decides the aesthetic of the pattern. Weeks to months go over this process until the raw material is created from which a single knife is being shaped. The investigation into new patterns drives Floris, therefore each knife carries its own story with a unique count and composition of layers.

The profiles of his pieces find their roots in usage, though he separates his work from other bladesmiths by having the general balance lean more into the energetical and aesthetical aspect. Floris sees his craft as a tool rather than the aim.

His work becomes his vessel to investigate the dialogue between maker and material, chaos and order, control and surrender. In his experience, strong work finds its way out in states where the maker is almost being put aside and much rather becomes a messenger of the universe than a master over the material.
